What's the occasion? Mojito (Pronounced as mo-jee-to, not mo-hi-to) Gang Christmas Party!!!

Okay so I didn't get to take good pictures of the food because everyone wanted to eat ASAP. Hmm.

Angus Beef Tapa and Rice (Php 230)

BEEF SALPICAO  (Php 330)
Skillet seared US beef tenderloin, roasted garlic and button mushrooms

TRIBECA SAUSAGE PLATTER (Php 320)
Italian garlic, Hungarian and kielbasa sausage, 2 sunny side up and steamed rice

FIRE PIT BBQ BELLY (Php 350)
Dry rub marinated pork belly, hickory and honey BBQ sauce, black bean and corn pilaf and cabbage slaw

I honestly don't know why there were fries, or why the description didn't fit the picture - if this was what Tanya ordered... LOL and those sausages aren't supposed to be there, but Tanya thought it would be a "work of art" ...oh Tanya

Ok break from ugly food pictures.

 Meet my best, Hillary

She loves me. I know that.

Ok back to food pics. Beautiful ones now. (Or two) ...jk

GAUCHO STEAK (Php 495)
Grilled rib eye steak chimichurri with spiced corn on the cob, black bean rice and grilled pepper salad

This one's mine.

It was tender and juicy (I like my steaks medium rare), though it was just okay. Quoting Chynna, it was "Nothing really special" Also, I like my steaks salty so I added (quite a lot) of salt hahah and it tasted much better. (Atleast for me!)

And this was us. We were soooo noisy but ah, who cares (ok fine maybe other people care...)

The Iscreamist

Dad was watching some video on YouTube about nitrogenized ice cream the other day & I remembered I read something about the Iscreamist in Teacher's Village. So I decided to bring him there, and here's our experience! :)

THE ISCREAMIST

This was their menu board, something like a periodic table!

And this was the place! It was so blue (which made my eyes hurt a little) but it was alright!

Here's kuya Iscreamist pouring liquid nitrogen to make my Banana Cream Pie ice cream

Mix mix mix!!!

Tada!!! Toasted marshmallow is their best seller but I didn't feel like eating "toasted marshmallows". Salted caramel was their second (and you know I hate salted caramel) and Pistachio was unavailable.... so I got this, and I wasn't disappointed at all :) It was the best (and fresh-est) banana cream pie ice cream I had (lol) Yep, it was that good! (A little bit costly too! Php 150 / 2 scoops)

We also ordered Dragon's Breath - S'mores (Php 65 / 4pcs). Here, you're supposed to dip the S'mores (on popsicles) into the cup filled with liquid nitrogen for about 7 seconds and consume the entire S'more in one bite. Doing so will let the evaporating liquid nitrogen escape from your mouth (and even through your nose!) - and this is why they call it the Dragon's Breath. They had French Macarons however the girl before me got the last piece available... so... :(

It wasn't so visible in pictures because of the blue light (and I didn't put flash on it), but this was the S'more on popsicle :)

Dipping S'mores in a cup of liquid nitrogen causes smoke to overflow from the cup!

Here's daddy doing the same!

Dip dip dip!

And there's daddy with his Dragon's Breath! :)

Iscreamist is definitely worth a try! I came around 8:30pm and spotted one free table, but after I ordered people started to pour in so I guess the only downside was that it could be jam packed with eager customers, so come during off-peak hours! :)

I mean hey, it's a great place to chill! (if you know what I mean ;) )

Pierre Hermé Holiday Macarons

Dinner time came and fairy-macaron-mother, auntie Babie, surprised me again with a box of Pierre Hermé macarons - Christmas edition!!! (Damnit I will get fat, but it's all woooooorthit!!!)

PIERRE HERMÉ MACARONS

Red and white...... Traces of Santa???

TRUFFE BLANCHE & NOISETTE
White Truffle & Roasted Piedmont Hazelnut Slivers
"Using the finest Alba white truffle, this macaron showcases two exceptional products from Piedmont. For novices, it represents an initiation to the white truffle. For connoisseurs, it is a new gourmet discovery." - **These are only available during the winter season!

At first I thought these were Jasmine macarons (with the same shell design and all), so I was pretty excited! But then they weren't, and I was let down... until I sniffed it. (sniffed, LOL)

I love truffle. Truffle pasta, truffle chocolates, ham with white truffle honey..
...but truffle macarons, ohgod it was just.... mind-expanding mind-blowing MIND-EXPLODING!

CHOCOLAT & FOIE GRAS
Chocolate & Foie Gras
and Here's Pierre Hermé speaking about his Chocolat & Foie Gras macaron!! It's so different because I didn't think chocolate and foie gras would blend in a good way. But it did and I wish I could share these with my sister but she's in Beijing. :( I know that she'd really love these as much as I do!

I told you Santa was behind all of this........
Thank you once again, Auntie Babie!! :)

MERRY CHRISTMACARONS TO EVERYONE!!!!!!

KATHLEEN'S MACARON CRITERIA:

Shell 10/10
It should be smooth and delicate, slightly crispy but not crunchy- fragile like eggshells, it should also be somehow flat and not dome-shaped with no air bubbles nor air pockets. Technically, excessive coloring is a no-no.

Filling & Flavor 9/10
F&F should be smooth, light and distinctly flavorful. It shouldn't be too sweet or sour as well. Melt in the mouth texture is also a plus!

Aesthetics 10/10
Shape and size of the macaron, feet and filling ratio (some people like thick fillings, some people don't. In my case, I do. Don't you get sad when it's just you know... Flat?)

Value 10/10
We all know that macarons aren't easy to do, (and maybe there are even more guidelines that I've yet to read about) so you're technically paying for the labor of the macaron maker. Accept it, pay, then judge if it was worth the money you paid with.

Ladurée Macarons

It's Christmas! It's Christmas! And I woke up to this on Christmas day!
Three pink boxes of Ladurée macarons from the fairy-macaron-mother, auntie Babie.
And yes I squealed again!

I think this was a premonition that this is going to be

A.

Great.

Christmas.

Day!!!!!

LADURÉE MACARONS

"The story of the Ladurée macaron starts in the middle of the 20th century with Pierre Desfontaines, who first thought of taking two macaron shells and joining them with a delicious ganache filling. Since this time, the recipe did not change. -The history of the Ladurée macarons"

..and I'm starting to think all Pierres are good in making macarons. JK heheh

I just had to arrange them by shade because they're so cute and colorfuuuul!

Yup, it's definitely going to be an extremely fat Christmas for me!

Perfect pastel colors for those delicate looking works of art

PINK PEPPER
Grey macaron shells filled with light cream infused with pink pepper
Colors are def my type, but not the flavor. Heheh

CHOCOLATE COCO
Chocolate with Coco Marshmallow
At first I actually thought this was S'mores. Lol well, the filling was marshmallow, who would've thought? This one was the chewiest among the rest! My little brother loved it too much he grabbed it from me. >_>

CARAMEL A LA FLEUR DE SOL
Caramel with Salted Butter
I said I hated caramel macarons but I think this actually changed my mind. I love the sticky salted caramel filling, and the strength of the flavour.

MELON
Melon
I really thought the flavour of this was orange... I'm a failure.

CAFE
Coffee
I love how the coffee flavor was just a hint - or atleast it wasn't strong in the sense that I feel like I'm drinking a cup of coffee in the morning.

GINGERBREAD
Spiced macaron shells filled with smooth cream flavoured with spices, honey and marmalade.
I love gingerbread. And damn I ate Christmas on Christmas day! I had to leave this one out so I could eat it last. Hello Christmas spirit!!!

CHOCOLAT
Chocolate
This was def mom's favorite. It was chewy and thick and I love the quality of the dark chocolate ganache. Mmmm chocolate :)

CITRON
Lemon
Lemon shmellon, it was good. I don't like citrusy food though.

VANILLE
Vanilla
I have nothing to say to Vanilla.

PETALE DE ROSE
Rose petal
This was one of my favorites in this batch (next to gingerbread), though I feel like it was too sweet (as compared to the rose macarons of other brands) nevertheless, it was fragrant and I love it.

FRAMBOISE
Raspberry
I still don't like raspberry, but it was ok!

I really don't know what this was. Strawberry, maybe? It tasted like candy. Mrrrp damnit.

Ladu - Ladurée, we like to par-tea!
(In the tune of Miley Cyrus' We Can't Stop ...no?)
